"What the Crap?!

From my new moleskine. I have no idea who she is but it looks like a "What the crap?" expression. Enjoy.

"Bye-bye Pen"

This marks the end of an era - only not really 'cause I have more of these pens - my pen has died. It lived a fulfilling life from doodles to notes and back to doodles again. A lot of doodles. It will be missed - only not that much. Bye, pen. Bye.

"No!"

So. I neglected this again, I apologise. I have so much that I could put up it just seems to slip my mind. I'm a bad person, I know. I seem to keep forgetting that I have my doodle sketchbook too, my doodles keep appearing in my actual work, which is never good. I got the damn sketchbook for a reason! Ah well, I'll use it again soon. I've got a lot of pages still to upload anyway. Hurrah. I will try and update this ever week again now, providing I don't forget. Not that these doodles are interesting. They're just fun. :]

"What?"

So, I neglected this a little bit. Oops. Sorries. Didn't mean to. Anyway. This is a doodle of me. The hat shall soon be mine. The rest I own. Most excellent. I liked it anyway. Heh. Photoshop CS5. Quickie.

Speed paint

Colour version of a piece on my deviantART gallery named 'Sepia'. It shows the facial shading more than the sepia version but I think the sepia one looks better, in general. And no, I don't know who she is. Another speedy speed paint. Shouldn't have made the skin colour so close to the background colour but eh, what can you do? I am lazy. I may fix it one day... but it's a messy, messy speed paint. So I doubt I will.

To see the Sepia version click here.

Speed Paint. 45 minutes-ish. Photoshop CS5.

"The Game"

Don't you just hate me? Ha. Well, this is from back when I used my actual notes as doodle pages... there is actually a little bit of work in there and at least one of the doodles is related to another bit of work done in the lesson. Clearly, I am a focussed individual.

This was actually the first appearance of the flying squirrel. Hooray! One day, when I am able to paint fir or paint better in general, I will be creating a painting of that very squirrel - because I can.

I know, it's kinda boring but... well, you'll get over it, won't you? Yes. Yes, you will. Haaa. I promise something more interesting soon.

"Scratching"

So, this is vaguely boring as far as doodle pages go... I have a lot more interesting ones... but this is a landmark moment. This is the first page in my doodle book that actually has lecture doodles on it. Yep, that's how much I doodle. It took me this long and there are LOTS more pages to come after this one and they get fuller and fuller as you get into the book.

It's funny that the first of my lecture doodles is posted after my first year of lectures has died down. I'm now in that ever unproductive exam period. I have one exam and not much else to do. Excellent. Not sure what I'm going to do with myself, really.

"Blair" Experiment

So, I created a picture for a friend as part of an art trade. That picture was of her character Blair. I'm pretty happy with it, it's been a while since I've actually finished something. This is the finished piece, which you can also see on DeviantART. Now, when I was working on this, putting the finishing touches which included a purple layer (which I think in the final image is set to either soft light or overlay at about 51% opacity) to make the image 'pop' a bit more. While trying things out to see what looked best I accidentally did this:

I set the purple layer to 'darken' and this happened. I REALLY like it. Really, really. I think it looks awesome, even if it does hide the painting that I spent hours blending and making pretty. It looks all experminetal and nice. Maybe I shall attemp to do more like this. Hm. Who knows. I liked it. Thought you might too.

"Fleck" sketchy

A very sketchy and weird looking Fleck. Hooray! Please note: Fleck is not mine she belongs to Mister Andrew Lloyd Webber and Miss Niamh Perry, who plays her. This doesn't really look like Niamh's version but eh, I sketched it without reference - I did it from memory of the pictures I've seen. I've yet to see Love Never Dies but I will. It's no surprise that I am now obsessed with this character... just look at her design. (Google it) She just screams something I'd love. Next time I draw her, it should be decent drawing too, I will attempt to make her look more feminine. :D

In Progress: Meme

... Or as I like to call it "WITH MY FOOTnefwirngkk?!" So, yeah. This is part of a meme, which I haven't yet finished. But this bit makes me giggle so I thought I'd upload it here, since the whole meme will never be put here anyway - it would go in my dA gallery. I think the bottom cartoony me exploded.

"Snape?"

I was quite happily doodling in gimp one night when suddenly I find Professor Snape staring back at me. Or, what I think looks like Snape. This was completely unintentional - but there he is for all to see. Strange, very strange. This really didn't take very long. It was one of those quickfire doodles that I seem to be churning out like a food factory. Mystifying. Hopefully, I can show you some actual art soon. Sadly, deadlines have been stopping me from doing any longwinded paintings or manipulations. Soon! Soon, I tell you!

"10 Minutes"

A 10 minute doodle on a moving coach. Hurrah. I've realised I've not really gotten to the actual lecture doodles yet. I think I've uploaded one. Wow, I clearly doodle too much. But it's okay - it helps. Urm, yeah. I know I've not updated in a while but I really don't have that much to say. I'll try to upload more regularly... Yes. Anyway. Enjoy.

Friday 9 April 2010

"Jasmina"

Jasmina, world. World, Jasmina. I'm feeling sarcastic and she's that sarcasm. Yes.

Saturday 3 April 2010

"Jareth"

Open Canvas doodle of Jareth from the film Labyrinth. Took about 5 minutes, I thought I would upload it for your viewing pleasure. The quality of this is why I don't use Open Canvas often, I'm not very good with it - sad times. Anyway, there it is.

"If it's real you can hold it in your hand"

This was either on the way home from Uni or the way back to Uni... I think it was the latter. I was sat in a coach station, fun fun. There are two doodles in this one that keep popping up in my doodles. However, I think this is the first time they do as far as those I have uploaded go. It's all very wonderful. Haa. This page doesn't make much sense at all - the title is from/based on a Paramore song, I think I was listening to them at the time. Scribbles. Excellent.

RotS: "Coated"

Illustration, hooray! Background, boo! I don't have much to say that isn't on the DeviantART upload of this so you should go there. Yes, I know this is a blog and I'm supposed to ramble here but I've already rambled elsewhere - I think my ramble ran out. Sad times.

But yeah, this is an illustration for a Spirited Away fanfiction by Velf. Search her on FF.net. That, or go and look at the DeviantART upload, there are links. It's magical.

I'm currently editing the levels and such of this image. At some point soon you may see a different version... possibly.

For the fullview and ramble click here.

Speedpaint: "Static"

I don't think I have uploaded this anywhere else, I created this sometime last year and never got round to uploading it. This is Static, a superhero of sorts - her real name is Taryn Mason. This is not supposed to be clean or neat, it is supposed to be messy and quick. I liked it, especially the colours. At some point I may re-do it, as with most of my images. I say I will but inevitably I don't. Enjoy the messiness. :D

Tuesday 23 March 2010

"Na'vi"

This is the last of my Valentines weekend doodles - yep, I doodled quite a bit, three pages worth. This isn't supposed to be any particular Na'vi, I just thought, while I was drawing it, that it looked like one and so turned it into one. Avatar is wonderful.

Exclusive coming next time I update, woo! Though, it's not that amazing but... I like it and I like calling it an 'exclusive' - it makes me feel vaguely important. This may not happen until after Friday, however, as it's my birthday and I have some lovelies staying with me for a few days and thus will be busy - I'm pretty damn excited.

WIP Dump

Blog exclusive, oh yes. These are some of the pieces I have sitting around waiting to be finished. I aim to finish all of them soon. Who knows, it might happen. Click it, it should get bigger, in theory... It's also huge so watch out for that.

A note on Alice: I've done Wonderland re-designs before and have decided to overhaul them all and do loads of new ones. The pose was referenced from a stock photo and said pose was found because I loved the pose of Blue-Bird's Mad Hatter Costume Design, what can I say? She inspires me.

Next time I update this it will be with a doodle - good times - and then there will be another blog exclusive. Stay tuned. :D

"2.29am 19.03.2010"

I seriously think I might be addicted to this whole sketchblog thing. That or I really have nothing better to do. It could be either... or a combination of both. Say hello to Me, yes that is me, in a weird cartoony style. As written on DeviantART, I need to pick a style and stick with it... but that would be so boring. I like my disordered styles and how I completely ignore how things should look unless I'm trying something vaguely realistic. Ah well, I'll do whatever.

Part of me is worrying that... by my posting this you will miss the last post, which actually contains some half-decent art. Please, go and look at it. You only have to scroll down, it's not hard and it is worth it, promise.

I should be in bed right now. That's what I should be doing. Why sleep when you can draw? Eh? Who knows. I don't, since I'm sat here rambling about it. Except, I am now going to stop rambling about it. Ha.

For fullview and some slightly different, much shorter ramble click here.

"St. George"

Two posts in one day? You're lucky noodles. Yes, you are. Anyway! Since I mentioned this in my last post, I thought it only fair to put the finished product on here.

I am, and I say this with complete and utter clarity, never using Gimp for this big a file again. It was torture. Though, it did result in two facebook doodles, the second of which will appear on here at some point.

Despite the Gimp issues, I am rather proud of this - it's oddly simple, it doesn't look it but it is. It wouldn't have taken so long if I was using PSE. I sometimes like doing simple manips... and non-creepy manips.

For stock information and a larger, better quality view click here.

Facebook Graffiti: Dragon's Eye

This was drawn on the wall of the Blue-Bird, my Beth (Yes, mine). Visit her doodle blog, writing blog, poetry specific blog and observation blog - you know you want to. I loves her dearly and so should you. And, just so you know, her writings and doodlings and such are awesome, you should definitely check them out. Plus, she's a lovely person and so deserves your attention. She's less sarcastic than me. :P You might appreciate the break from my sarcasm.

But anyway, onto the actual colourfuldoodlemathing.

I'm rather impressed by this. I didn't undo anything and I kept accidentally doing the pen-flick that makes my browser go back a page. Thank the baby jesus (hey-zeus) for auto recovery, otherwise this would not exist, which would make me sad.

This was technically procrastination. I'm supposed to be (and am) working on a manip for my big brother - he needs a background for a poster, so I'm obliging. However, since he lacks PSE I have to work in Gimp and while I love Gimp, it was my starting point and holds a place in my heart, working in A3 size at 300dpi does not work. It makes it very slow and hard to work with, especially if erasing/painting large spaces. So, while I'm gathering the motivation to finish erasing the sky and replacing it with a more atmospheric sky, I decided to do this. And update this blog. Everyone's a winner! Except maybe my brother... who may have to wait slightly longer than he originally would have.

Oops.

"There's a place [...]"

From 2009. You might see this little dude again... since I may do a few single panel things like this. I'm not entirely sure where he came from, if I'm honest. But I like it. I like the words, I may have to use them for something. Excuse the random eye. There's always a random eye, it's like a rule of doodle life or something. There will always be an eye.

There's a place here where we walk faceless, lost but exactly where we wanted

Teaser

This is what I'm currently working on... even though I should be finishing some other digital paintings... but I had this idea and loved it. So, I decided to do it. Ha. I'm not going to tell you more about it because then it wouldn't be so much of a teaser but that is not the whole thing. No, siree. That's only a little bit. There's probably a lot wrong with it but it's only in the sketch stage so that's okay. Enjoy. :D You might get another teaser later on in the process.

Also, my soundtrack for this piece is Epica. Mmm.

EDIT:

I felt like being nice and giving you another peek. Aren't I lovely?

"Angular"

Another Valentines weekend doodle. Not Valentinesque whatsoever but eh. I don't have much to say, the fact that typing is proving difficult is probably the reason for this but that's a different story entirely. So, yes, there you go.

"I saved my last [...]" Experiments

I'm bombarding you with blog entries today, aren't I? Ah well. I decided to fiddle with 'I saved my last breath for your window' in photoshop (see a past but not too past blog entry). The top image is the three edits and the original combined and the three edits are below. I like the one in the middle the most, more ghostly and more fitting to the title. It's not quite black and white, it has subtle colour and I think it works really well with the title. Why did I not decide to edit before? It's something I like to pretend I'm good at.

I will be editing the scannings more often, I feel.

"Redhanded" - Before and After

This is a manipualtion I created a few days ago, you can see what I started with and what it turned into. It's all very exciting, isn't it?

Though it uses only one stock and two textures it was actually a rather complicated manip - a lot of painting went into it. It's a fact that I'm proud of, I think I am getting better at incorporating painting into my manipulations. It's a milestone I wasn't entirely sure that I would be crossing. I still need to put a lot of work in what I paint into my manipulations but it's certainly progress.

If you would like to see the manipulation on its own, without the gif aspect and at a higher resolution and with the possibility of fullview, then click here.

I like to create scary things.

"I saved my last breath for your window"

Title credit: Acoustic Funeral (For Love in Limbo) by HIM

So, I decided to scan my face a few times. I like to call the series 'At your window' and yes, I am making a series out of it. Most of them are artistically pleasing. I will be doing more during the course of the next few weeks (whenever I scan doodles or the like). I have another part of the series uploaded and it can be seen here. I may upload this one there as well but I'm not entirely sure - this may be a series which is spread throughout my various nooks of the internet. It'll be like a treasure hunt to find each piece. How exciting. Anyway, second post in one day - be happy.

"Seeeee!"

So, here is the first. It wasn't actually done in a lecture but it is a doodle. I believe I was in Southampton at the time - february 13th. I like it. It's cute. There are no hidden meanings, there really isn't anything much to say about it, except that it was done completely in ball-point pen. Most of my doodles will be.

You may notice the header. Yep, it's a little stroke of genius, isn't it? Anyway, this blog will be updated once a week (on a wednesday, I would assume) with doodles from lectures - one page at a time, unless the second page is needed. Don't worry, I have a lot of back-log if for some reason I don't doodle. In between the doodle posts you might get WIPs or parts of WIPs... you might even get finished pieces. You never know. I may just ramble. Like now. I hope you enjoy. :P

Monday 22 February 2010

What the deuce?

What is this you may ask? Well, I shall tell you. It's a sketchblog. But it's not a normal sketchblog, oh no. It will have some form of WIP shots and finished art works but most of it will be doodles. You see, in my lectures and seminars I have a bad habit of doodling (but not all of these doodles will come from lectures and seminars, they can come from anywhere). Fortunately for me the doodles that come out of these lectures and seminars tend to be amusing, sometimes related to the lesson and occasionally actually pretty good. Shocker.

Since coming back from something the University of Chester like to call 'Personal Development Week', I have decided that cluttering my notes with unnecessary, albeit fun, doodles is not a good idea and so have brought a small sketchbook back with me, which is where most of the doodles you see will come from. I will gradually be uploading the ones that I did before the mini sketch book idea came into my head but otherwise, any new ones will be in chronological order, unless I have something bigger planned for a certain page. Oh my god. Organisation? Really? Yep.

What's with the name? Well, the cover of my A6 Chiltern Brand sketch pad has the Eiffel Tower on it in an obviously fake computerised sketchy style and I have doodled on it, it's almost like an attack on the Eiffel Tower. My own little invasion, if you will. When I have finally scanned it, it shall be the header image for this blog. Until then we shall deal with what is there currently.

I hope you enjoy this little slice of madness that is my doodlings and/or actual artwork. I enjoyed creating it, at least.
